Threesome-Adriatica [2011] Double Crown Record

No folks a good threesome isn’t just for the bedroom anymore. Now you can enjoy a Threesome in every room in the house, heck even at work if you like. The three Serbians that make up this surf punk outfit [minus the snot] are Uros Milkic on rapid fire guitar,Jovana Petrovic as the female equivalent of the Muppet Show’s Animal, and holding things together on bass rhythms Petar Zivic. This band has only been together for a short time, but they have taken Europe by storm in just a small span.Destroying the competition in their home country at a battle of the bands if you will, beating out a astonishing 400 other acts [yes they are that good].Having served time in the Serbian indie rock scene members of the band finally seen the light, the surf instrumental light that is.Once you become a true fan of this genre it’s hard to listen to other genre’s and really appreciate them the same way again. The American label Double Crown records took heed and signed the group soon after hearing the “First Wave” EP [each three songs are found here by the way] So let’s get things started.First track Chasing Car Bandits starts off with laid back guitar wails, then whacks you upside the cranium with a pulsing beat, and a whiplash guitar drive accompanied by some female woo-waa’s.Raked Over is Man Or Astro-Man-ish post Star Crunch era mega heavy modern instro.GTO Crash really shows why a three piece instro combo can really let a bass player shine and be heard at the same time.Natural progressions, and powerhouse drumming go a long way.Reminding me of a Planet Seven track “First Wave” has all the makings of modern day surf classic with a proggish underline.I suspect the threesome have became a foursome with the addition of some crafty keyboard accompaniments sprinkled on in just the right spots on “Eddie Would Go”.Tremendous songwriting, and arrangements.Modern surf never ceases to amaze me.Wahine like everything else the band does is a nervous wreck set to song, this time in a Slacktone vein.Dancefloor Stalkers has yet another dose of barely there keyboard action, but what really steals the show is the guitar flamboyancy, and the quiet to loud climax.Did I mention the song is somewhat danceable?
Too crazy and wild to really be named “Beware Of The Stare” didn’t really have me sweaty and nervous, but it did have me shaking my fist, and banging head for it’s duration.Tough and masculine for sure. Named after a red dwarf star located 20.3 light years away from earth Earth in the constellation Libra “Gliese 581” maybe be a little sun,but let’s not forget it’s mighty power, and song here doesn’t in the least.Indie rock and The Pixies influences shines bright on this one it does young jedi. Finally my favorite track rears it’s ugly head “Snow Surf” kicks and claws it’s way through the speakers like a pissed of badger.Angry hi-hat abuse, and gnarly bass throbbing, and ice pick in your neck guitar won’t stop this beast in the least.Threesome tackle late era Man Or Astro-Man? “Interstellar Overdrive” like they were super secret former members.Only thing lacking are the samples, but all is good nonetheless. If you’re looking for romantic surf music to slow dance to,this ain’t it brother.
